If it is 'believed' that you owe more than £1000.00 in tax, the taxman will exercise the power to raid your account. 
What happens then if the tax officials got the calculations wrong? afterall tax officials have been critisised time and again for pursuing taxpayers who owed nothing. It is a known fact that some taxpayers are struggling to make sense out of HMRC because of their legitimate complaints being wrongly rejected. With this type of negative reputation, how can HMRC be trusted to raid taxpayers' accounts?
